Hundreds of people turned up to obtain Inner Line Permit (ILP) during a special camp for issuance of the pass in Imphal on Saturday.
The Inner Line Permit (ILP) which the Centre extended in Manipur was officially introduced from January 1, 2020 with the publication of a notification in the gazette of the Manipur government.
With the introduction of the system, people who are supposed to possess ILP and entering and staying in any part of the state need to obtain the permit and anyone found violating the new regulation, he or she is liable to penalty, officials said.
To ensure those people who are supposed to possess ILP, Imphal West district administration organised a special camp for them for issuance of the permit at Dharmasala of Thangal Bazar.
Hundreds of people who need to possess ILP and staying in Thangal Bazar area and its adjoining places turned up to obtain the permit on the first day of the camp. The camp will continue till January 6 and will be conducted at other places also for the convenience of all concerned people, officials at the camp said. Imphal West DC (Deputy Commissioner) Naorem Praveen personally supervised the issue of the permit.
Talking to media, the DC said that the district administration is planning to conduct similar camps at various places in the coming days. The camp is being organised to ensure a fair implementation of the regulation and no one is harassed. The permit can be obtained by producing the require documents indicated in the guidelines which was published in the state gazette.
According to the officials, most of the people turned up on Saturday applied for regular permit.
It may be mentioned here that police have already started creating awareness on the need for obtaining the permit by those people who need to possess ILP and staying in the state.
