Wokha, January 5 (MExN): The Sanis Range Sports Association (SRSA) successfully conducted its 74th Annual Sports Meet on January 5, with enthusiastic participation from athletes, officials and spectators from across the Sanis range.
The programme was chaired by SRSA publicity and information secretary Yanchemo Murry.
The inaugural programme began with an invocation prayer offered by Nchumbemo Yanthan, catechist of Sacred Heart Church, Baghty. This was followed by a welcome address by SRSA chairman Shobemo Ezung, who highlighted the objectives of the association and emphasised the importance of sports in fostering unity, discipline and healthy competition among the youth.
The programme was further enriched by a special musical number presented by Sulan Kikon, which added to the spirit of the occasion.
Registrar of Nagaland University Dr Abemo Lotha, who attended the event as the special guest, expressed appreciation to the organisers for their tireless efforts and commitment in successfully conducting the annual sports meet. He called upon sports enthusiasts, particularly the youth, to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to sports and to prepare both physically and mentally. He stressed the importance of discipline, perseverance and maintaining true sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Dr Lotha also urged the public to uphold unity and harmony, stating that sports play a vital role in fostering social interaction and strengthening bonds among communities. He commended the Sanis Range Sports Association for organising tournaments that promote unity, mutual respect and community development. He further appealed to spectators to remain mindful, encourage young players positively and enjoy the games in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by SRSA vice-chairman Vanthungo Ranghthang, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, organisers, volunteers and supporters for their cooperation and contributions towards the success of the event. The inaugural programme ended with the formal declaration of the SRSA tournament open by the chief guest.
