Kiphire, November 1 (MExN): St Peter’s Parish, Kiphire, observed Catechism Day on October 31 under the theme “Little Hearts, Big Faith,” with more than 190 children participating in a day-long programme featuring religious, cultural and creative activities.

The programme began with a Holy Mass led by Rev. Fr. Philip Magh as the main celebrant. In his homily, he urged the children to cultivate humility, describing it as the greatest virtue in human life and a gift from God. Citing the example of Jesus Christ, he said, “Though He was equal with God, He humbled Himself and was born into a poor family.” He cautioned the children against pride, stating that it prevents a person from growing. Narrating the story of the Lion and the Rat, he encouraged them to remain humble and never look down on others.

Before the competitions, Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu led a prayer seeking blessings for the children and the successful conduct of the programme. The children took part in various competitions, including solo song, duet, choir, choreography, Bible quiz, Bible skit, Bible recitation and Bible storytelling. Fancy dress and spelling bee competitions were also organised.

The events provided a platform for the children to showcase their talents, confidence and understanding of their faith, while encouraging fellowship and participation. Tea and lunch were provided to the children and animators by the parish.

Organisers said the objective of Catechism Day was not limited to competitions but also to help children experience their faith, build fellowship and grow as a faith community. The gathering also fostered friendship, unity and interaction among children from different communities.

The parish priests thanked the catechists, animators, parents and volunteers for their contributions towards organising the programme.
