Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): The Sumi Totimi Hoho (STH) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Dimapur, describing violence against women and children as a heinous crime and a grave violation of human dignity.
In a statement, the organisation said such acts have no place in a civilised society and must be dealt with in accordance with the full force of the law.
The STH commended the courage of the victim and her family for coming forward in pursuit of justice and urged law enforcement agencies and the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the case and ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
The organisation also demanded appropriate legal action against the accused, identified as O. Wati Meren Jamir, Tsuktimongba Ao and Akangkokba, the Gaon Bura (GB) of Unger village.
Expressing concern over the allegations against a village functionary, the STH said it was particularly disturbing that a person entrusted with safeguarding the community was alleged to have failed in that responsibility, adding that such a breach of public trust must be dealt with seriously under the law.
The organisation expressed solidarity with the victim and her family, assuring them of its support in their pursuit of justice. It said the trauma suffered by the victim requires not only accountability but also collective efforts to prevent such crimes from recurring.
Reiterating its commitment to the protection of women and children, the STH called upon citizens, community leaders, civil society organisations and institutions to work together to safeguard the rights, dignity and future of every child, while stressing that justice delayed is justice denied.
