Student bodies rally behind SASU, slam misrepresentation in media reports

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 24 (MExN): Several student unions from Seyochung area and beyond have extended solidarity with the Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) while condemnaing the use of the name “Seyochung Area Sangtam Students’ Union” in a recent statement by the Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students’ Union (ENSSU).

In a statement, the Seyochung Town Students’ Union (STSU) said the erroneous use of the name had “created unnecessary confusion” and that “such inaccuracies not only mislead the public but also distort the true identity and representation of student bodies in the region.” It added that SASU’s call for clarification was “both valid and necessary.”

The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) affirmed its “unwavering support” to SASU, calling ENSSU’s act “baseless and imprudent.” It stated, “No such body as the so-called ‘Seyochung Area Sangtam Students’ Union’ is known to exist within our jurisdiction.”

The Yangzitong Village Students’ Union (YVSU) echoed SASU’s stand, saying “such inaccurate usage of terminology not only spreads falsehood but also causes unnecessary public confusion and misunderstanding.”

Similarly, the Thangthure Village Students’ Union said the “inaccurate and misleading” reference to Sangtam was a cause of “deep concern” and urged stakeholders to act with “utmost responsibility in their communication.”

The New Monger Students’ Union condemned what it termed the “deliberate misuse and fabrication of the name of a non-existent union,” describing the act as “an insult to the integrity of student bodies.”

The Old Monger Village Students’ Union (OMVSU) called the use of the name “blatant and unacceptable,” adding that “this action has deeply disturbed the peace-loving people of the region.”

The Thsingar Village Students’ Union said the usage amounted to “serious distortion and misinterpretation,” while the Yingphire Village Students’ Union termed it a “serious misrepresentation” that “undermines the identity and sentiments of the concerned community.”

All the unions reiterated their recognition of SASU as the sole representative student body of the Seyochung area and urged organisations, individuals and the media to maintain accuracy and responsibility in public statements.
