Parents of the deceased school girl N Babysana on September 5 "pleaded" the authority of Manipur government to arrest them, while demanding "unconditional" release of Joint Action Committee (JAC) members who are currently in judicial custody.

Talking to reporters at his house at Thangmeiband, father of the deceased student, N Tomchou Singh expressed strong disappointment with the manner the state government as well as the police were dealing with the case of his daughter.

Tomchou then "pleaded" the authority to exchange the arrested JAC members with him and his wife, saying that both of them will take the place of the arrested JAC members in judicial custody.

"It would be better for me to stay in jail than at home in such a situation where there is no hope for getting justice for my deceased daughter," Tomchou lamented.

A total of 17 members of the JAC including its convenor and co-convenor are currently in judicial custody after police arrested them in connection with the ongoing agitations demanding justice for the young student.

Tomchou strongly protested the arrest of the JAC members and said that they were only leading the campaign demanding justice for his daughter.

At the same time, Tomchou said that he is ready to give his statement to the police once again in the presence of a magistrate. "If necessary police can record my statement in the presence of the magistrate," he added.

Meanwhile, JAC against the killing of N Babysana Chanu on September 5 announced that they will continue to stage various forms of protest against government's delay in finding the truth behind the death of the young girl.
