Student, youth bodies condemn alleged assault of minor in Dimapur, seek swift justice

Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): Several student and youth organisations in Nagaland have strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault and physical abuse of a minor girl in Dimapur and demanded a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation into the case, along with stringent legal action against those responsible.

The Ao Students' Conference (AKM) described violence and abuse against women and children as deeply disturbing and unacceptable, saying such incidents raise serious concerns about the safety and dignity of vulnerable individuals. Noting that the accused had been arrested following the registration of an FIR, AKM urged the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation is underway and called for a transparent probe. The organisation also expressed solidarity with the victim and her family.

The Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) termed the alleged crime "inhuman, shameful and barbaric" and demanded that investigating agencies leave no stone unturned in probing the case. It sought the booking of the accused and any accomplices under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and asserted that no person, regardless of status or influence, should be allowed to evade the due process of law.

The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) described the alleged assault as a heinous and inhumane act with no place in a civilised society. The federation urged authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and comprehensive investigation and ensure strict legal action against all those found involved. It also called on society to work collectively towards creating a safer environment for children.

The Angami Students' Union (ASU) strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an act incompatible with a civilised society. Expressing deep concern over what it termed a growing erosion of moral values and increasing public anxiety, the union said no individual has the right to strip another person of dignity. ASU extended solidarity to the victim and her family and called upon law enforcement and judicial authorities to expedite the legal process and ensure the highest measure of punishment permissible under law. It further demanded that justice be carried out with transparency, integrity and without external interference.

The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) expressed outrage over the incident and described sexual violence against a child as a grave crime and a direct attack on the dignity, safety and future of society. The organisation appreciated the support extended to the victim by the Chang Union Dimapur and acknowledged the prompt response of law enforcement agencies. It urged investigators to ensure a thorough and unbiased probe while safeguarding the privacy and rights of the minor throughout the legal process.

The organisations collectively called for justice to be delivered without delay and maintained that those found guilty must face the full force of the law.
