DIMAPUR | SEPTEMBER 30 : Public College of Commerce, Dimapur - the oldest commerce college in Nagaland, held its 26th annual freshers’ meet-cum-parting social on Friday at Town Hall with advisor, Dimapur Municipal Council, Tokheli Kikon as the chief guest.
The DMC advisor in her speech termed PCC as trail blazing college and a boon to citizens of the commercial hub Dimapur. Tokheli said that commerce students have more flexibility and livelihood options than students of other streams. Exhorting the students on the values of hard work and honesty, she also said that students can greatly contribute to make Dimapur a better place to live in.
Observing that boy students far outnumber girls in the fresher’s meet, she said that more girls should study commerce and to compete with boys in business arena.
On the occasion, Tokheli also released the annual magazine of the college.
Earlier, PCC principal Abhijit Chakraborty in his address said that there is more to learning than just bookish knowledge. He said that one of the most important aspects of life is learning and practicing values like discipline and honesty.
Dwelling on the chequered history of the college, the PCC principal said that since its establishment in 1985 with only 5 students, the college has come a long way with 917 students at present.
He also said that in the 2009 and 2010 B. Com results, the college bagged five and six distinctions respectively with overall pass percentage of 85.
President, Students’ Union PCC, Hutoyi Y Sumi delivered the welcome address.
Speeches were also delivered by representatives of both freshers ands senior students.
The spotlight of the fresher’s meet was the Mr. and Miss Fresher’s contest with participants taking part in three fashion rounds –traditional cum introduction, casual and formal.
Philip and Angyung were declared Mr. and Miss Freshers respectively.
The second session was marked by songs and dances presented by PCC students.
