JOTSOMA, APRIL 11 (MExN): The Department of Science & Technology (DST), Nagaland, through its IHub and Science, Engineering & Communication (SEC) division, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Kohima Science College (KSC), organised a two-day students’ seminar on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things’ at the college’s Conference Hall, Jotsoma, on April 4 and 5.

The seminar was aimed at assessing the level of awareness, preparedness, and receptiveness among the student community in Nagaland towards emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). It also sought to generate awareness about global trends, applications, and opportunities in the AI and IoT sectors, while examining the challenges and potential for integration of such technologies in the local context.

Day one of the seminar featured Er Kikrukhrielie Khezhie, Director of Nagabots Tech Ventures Pvt Ltd, as the resource person. The session registered the participation of approximately 100 students from 15 high schools and higher secondary schools across Kohima district. The seminar included interactive sessions and discussions that allowed students to engage directly with the concepts and real-world uses of AI and IoT.

On the second day, Er Vituonuo Valerie Suohu took the lead as resource person, engaging with around 100 college students from 12 different Arts and Science departments of Kohima Science College. Through presentations and Q & A sessions, students explored how AI and IoT are revolutionising industries worldwide and what that could mean for a region like Nagaland.

The seminar was chaired by Wilson, Education Assistant, IHub & SEC, while Dr Sedevikho Chase, Assistant Professor at KSC, delivered the welcome address. The background note, setting the tone for the two-day programme, was presented by Er Onongoto Soleho, Chief Mentor, IHub & SEC, Department of Science & Technology.

Highlighting the core objectives of the seminar, the organisers stressed the need to make technology more accessible and relevant to the youth of Nagaland. The discussions focused on how AI and IoT can be harnessed in sectors such as agriculture, education, governance, and entrepreneurship, while also identifying the gaps in local infrastructure and technical literacy that pose significant challenges to adoption.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by T. Wilson, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, student participants, and faculty members for their active involvement in making the event a success. The organisers also expressed hope that such engagements would inspire students to further explore careers and innovations in emerging technology domains.
