DIMAPUR, AUGUST 29 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Students Union Manipur deplored the undue imposition of prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC along the NH-37 east and NH-53 including Noney area. “The governments action is bias and unjustified as compared to that of the soft corner guaranteed in support of the month long general strike, economic blockade and the indefinite high way bandhs launched by SHDCC which do not attract public wrath or governmental offensive orders”, stated a press note issued by David Kamei, Information Secretary Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur.
“The one day public uprising against the eminent loss of lands belonging to the Nagas on the event of district hood for Jiribam and Sadar Hills/Kangpokpi, seems more irritating”, it stated. As per the press note the Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh had also stated that lands are owned by the government which can be re-arranged or re-adjust the boundaries for administrative conveniences. “It is quite a misleading assertion when Manipur is facing acute controversy over the four Naga districts being merged with Nagaland or for unification or alternative arrangement outside the control of Manipur State”.
The ZSUM stated that the valley people assert for maintaining the territorial integrity of Manipur state with the Manipur Nagas look for the other way. Lands owned by certain as legacies of ancestors remain with the concerned land owners, not by outsiders though the govt. may levy taxes, it argued.
The ZSUM stated that tyres of 3 trucks Imphal bound trucks got punctured at Makru bridge point and the 22nd Assam Rifles stationed at Kaiphundai came with recovery vehicle to lift the said trucks. “The army on duty ordered to unload the goods when all the three trucks were carrying only foreign liquors with the thin layers of potatoes concealing the intoxicant stuffs. Army personnel on duty gave truck drivers and handymen sound heavy thrashing... the illegal goods were diverted at Kaiphundai by the army”, it stated. This according to the ZSUM revealed the “unheard trade mark of the public carriers enjoying secretly by taking advantages of the state’s concern”.
The ZSUM warned the state authorities to lift the prohibitory order section of 144 Cr P.C. immediately to “bring cohesive atmosphere failing which the Union will not hesitate to take up its own course of action and for any untoward incidents the govt. shall be the sole responsible for it”.
