DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Tangkhul Naga Long has strongly condemned what it described as “the unfounded and fabricated” item published on the Imphal Free Press edition of September 16, 2011 entitled “Security Alerts on Possibility of attack by NSCN-IM”. “The news item implicating the Tangkhul Coordination Committee (TCC) of demanding powerful explosive from NSCN –IM is nothing but malicious reporting to tarnish the image of TCC, a committee set up by Tangkhul Frontal Organisations and mandated by the people, in the backdrop of the Government of Manipur’s decision to conduct the ADC Elections”, stated a press note issued by Solomon Ningshen, President Tangkhul Naga Long.
“Further, if the report that official instructions have been issued to the concerned district police commandos to conduct frequent search and operations in the Tangkhul Naga populated area of Dewlahland and Tangkhul Avenue is true, then such directives only goes on to prove and reinforces the position of the Nagas and other tribals that the GOM is communal and discriminatory against the Nagas and other tribals”, the TNL stated.
The TNL pointed out that it was for reasons such as this that the Nagas have been compelled to severe all political ties with the GOM and that the “policy of the GOM to target and victimize a particular community only goes on to show its ineptness at correctly handling delicate situations”. The Tangkhul Naga Long further urged the media, print and otherwise, to judiciously verify and ascertain proper facts before publishing such slander as “news”.
“Such bias reporting negates the reputation of responsible reporting that IFP holds. More dangerously, instead of contributing to democratic flow of information, it adds and aids misrepresentation and misinformation which directly fuels the volatile situation prevailing in the failed state of Manipur”, the TNL stated.
The TNL stated that it was compelled to call upon the IFP to immediately retract its story and issue an unconditional apology within 48 hours failing which all necessary actions, including legal proceedings, will be taken. “As your motto says: Achumbana Yaiphare-the truth shall prevail”.
