Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): The Tseminyu District Green Initiative (TDGI) team led by ADC Tseminyu and TDGI Convener, Mhomo Tungoe, NCS, visited the Sendenyu area on May 8 as part of the district’s initiative to promote sustainable development, green tourism, biodiversity conservation and community participation across Tseminyu district.
According to a press release issued by the Kenono Foundation in collaboration with the Sendenyu Community Ecotourism Board (SCEB), the team toured several tourist, biodiversity and historical sites in the area, including Khinrun (Governor’s View Point), Sendenyu Community Biodiversity Base Camp, Nsonji–Sendenyu Centenary Memorial Park, Parashen, and the Sendenyu Biodiversity Center at New Sendenyu.
A stakeholder consultation and community meeting was later held at the Sendenyu Biodiversity Center with participation from the four village councils of Sendenyu, New Sendenyu, Thongsunyu and Lotsuphen, along with the SCEB and Kenono Foundation.
The programme was attended by TDGI members, officials from departments including Rural Development, PHED and Forest, as well as community leaders, youth representatives and local stakeholders.
During the interaction, Mhomo Tungoe encouraged the community to actively preserve and promote its natural and cultural heritage while embracing sustainable tourism practices for long-term socio-economic growth.
Resource person Tieso Yhokha, Founder of Exotic East Tours & Travels, spoke on the tourism potential of the Sendenyu landscape and highlighted the importance of community-based tourism and conservation-linked livelihoods.
He stated that the area holds “immense potential” for eco and cultural tourism and underscored “the need to preserve indigenous identity and biodiversity as core strengths of tourism promotion.”
SCEB Chairman Er Njilo Kemp, on behalf of the stakeholders and community leaders, expressed gratitude to TDGI for recognising and promoting the Sendenyu villages as an eco and cultural tourism destination under the initiative.
He said the community remains committed to “biodiversity conservation, responsible tourism, and collaborative development for the benefit of future generations.”
The programme concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen partnerships among government departments, community institutions and civil society organisations towards developing Sendenyu as a model destination for sustainable tourism and conservation in Nagaland, the release stated.
