DIMAPUR, JULY 7 (MExN): The Trans-Border Integrity Madhurita Das Football match was played today in a jam-packed ground estimating to 12000 peace loving citizens from Assam and Nagaland. The match was played between Sivasagar Eleven Vs Sporting Cluib Tuli at Geleki’s Athkhel playground.
At the outset of this event a cultural extravaganza exchange program was held where the MLA of Tuli L. Temjen Jamir has inaugurated the event and a goodwill speech was delivered by him. In his speech L. Temjen re-iterated the sweet age old ties existed for over more 600 years between Assamese and Naga people. He highly appreciated and encouraged the organiser of this event for initiating such a unique friendship venture and also applauded the files and ranks of the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) for spearheading the new initiative towards this area for instilling peace.
In an attempt to pursuing peace and tranquility in the Assam-Nagaland border areas specifically in Geleki-Yonglok and Anaki sector, a football tournament is being organised from June 28 last. The final match will be played between Sporting Club, Tuli Vs Sivasagar XI on July 7, 2011 at Athkhel area (a centrally located village adjourning Geleki-Yonglok and Anaki village).
This Trans-Border running football tournament in memory of Late Madhurita Das, wife of Ranjan Kumar Das, DFO of Sivasagar district is being sponsored by the Joint Forest Management Committees of this locality. The day’s event will also witness a coordination meeting of the public from both sides to be initiated by the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) at 11 am. Cultural extravaganza at 1 pm to be graced by L. Temjen Jamir, MLA of Tuli and the Football final match to be inaugurated by Debabrata Saikia, Hon’ble MLA of Nazira Constituency. The cultural evening will begin at 7 pm onwards where troupes from both sides will take part.
The sitting MLA of Nazira Debabrata Saikia, son of former Assam CM late Hiteswar Saikia was very enthusiastic for having initiated this event in his home constituency and hoped that this tournament will go a long way for the people of assam and Nagaland for ushering peace and mutual trust.
The Upper Assam Commissioner Iftikar Hussain has graced the occasion by inaugurating the players. He applauded the entire event for ushering peace in the Assam Nagaland border. He appealed to the gathering to initiate such more avenues for better living. Jatindra Lahakar, deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar also speaks volumes for organising this unique event and hoped that the BPCC (A-N) will tirelessly work for the establishment of peace in the entire border.
In the match, Sporting Club Tuli was beaten by Sivasagar Eleven in a tie breaker since the teams scored 1-1 in the allotted time. Smt. Hemaprova Saikia, former MLA Nazira and wife of former Assam Chief Minister late Hiteswar Saikia distributed the trophies to the players.
Chubatemjen, SDO Civil Tuli, Smt bendanglila, Border Magistrate, Tzurangkong and officials attended the meet. More than a thousand football enthusiasts from Nagaland bordering villagers attended in today’s festival. The Border Peace Coordination Committee (A-N) was fully represented by its President B.P. Bora, Vice President Imsu Jamir, 12 executives from both Assam & Nagaland and its Coordinator Er Temsu Wathi Ao.
