Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): The Dimapur Police has yet again apprehended three persons over extortion.
A press note from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur informed that on receiving information from reliable source that some persons identifying themselves as cadres belonging to NNC (Non-Accordist) were demanding yearly tax under threat and intimidation over phone to some businessmen located near the SBI Main Branch Dimapur, a team of Dimapur police personnel were deployed undercover for surveillance in and around the area.
Accordingly, three persons were apprehended on August 11 and were identified by the businessmen as the extortionists. The arrested accused were identified as Nikeiya Angami (31) ‘ss tatart’ of NNC, s/o P Angami of Phesama village, Kohima, Vehokhe Yeptho (37) ‘ss captain of NNC’ s/o Lhuhoto of Akuma village, Aghunato and Akaito Achumi (27) ‘ss lieutenant’ of NNC, s/o Khekiye of Hovukhu, Dimapur’ were forwarded to the court for remand.
The note added that on checking their mobile phones it was also ascertained that the accused had made a number of calls to the businessmen on several occasions. Also, on establishing their involvement in the crime, the extortionists were booked under relevant sections of the law.
