Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Ao, Kyong and Sumi students’ unions of Dimapur, constituent units of the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), today issued a rejoinder to the statement of other nine units of the union who had denounced the three for “tribalising” the current crisis in the organization.
The joint statement of the Ao, Kyong and Sumi units explained this way – “The big shock of the XVIII general conference should not blame the 3 units. The boycott was democratic protest against the Speaker’s (Acting) autocratic, one-sided and unconstitutional action of ignoring and undermining the three strong units of DNSU, pleading for any emergency Union Assembly, had the Speaker not been bias and display his neutrality as Speaker, the greatest shame and embarrassment brought to 9 units could have been avoided. The 3 units never coerced nor intimated as alleged by the author of the 9 units.”
The three units also denied deputing volunteers, except for ‘officials’, to see that the delegates from the 3 protesting units implement the decision of the units’.
“We felt pity to some of our counterparts who had to share the biggest embarrassment of the big flop-show of the XVIII general conference for no fault of theirs, but were mislead by few ‘ego-centric’ leaders flocking them together to be drowned in shame,” the rejoinder explained.
The three units stated that the “failure” should not be blamed on the three units ‘for standing firm in our decision.’ The inefficiency and capacity of the 9 units’ leaders have been demonstrated in that they could manage to bring only 156 student delegates from different parts of Dimapur, for the two days general conference of the DNSU.
The rejoinder also alleged that the present DNSU executive members (2009-2011) was “filled with the capacity of potentiality judging their credibility and contribution towards the union.”
The rejoinder termed it “hilarious” that for the tenure 2011-2013 the 9 constituent units are “practicing the spirit of block politics by contemplating by working between themselves into sharing the posts without acknowledging or crediting the sacrifices of 3 constituent units (ASUD, DKSU, DSSU).”
Appreciating the concern and suggestion of the Naga Council of Dimapur, the three units also suggested to the tribunals of DNSU to reframing the existing constitution of DNSU, with special reference to election matters to have wider accommodative spirit amongst the constituent units of the union.
