DIMAPUR, JULY 22 (MExN): Two persons had a miraculous escape after the autorickshaw (NL 07 F 2442) they were riding met with an accident on Friday, July 22. The three-wheeler was hit head-on by an oncoming truck as it tried to change lane at Circular Road, near the main entrance leading to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School at around 9:00 am today. There was no passenger in the autorickshaw except the driver and another companion seated on the side. The driver suffered a broken leg while his companion escaped unhurt. However, they were both nowhere to be seen after the crash.
According to one witness, the autorickshaw was approaching from towards the Clock Tower side. It collided with a dipper truck approaching from the opposite direction as it made a sudden turn to the right trying to get across to the other lane. The rear of the autorickshaw also got nudged by another truck closely following behind it, the witness said.
In the commotion that ensued, the dipper truck fled the scene so did the injured driver and his companion leaving behind their damaged vehicle. Nobody was able to take down the number of the fleeing truck. The witness said that it was a white coloured dipper truck. Only the one following behind the autorickshaw stopped.
Traffic police later said that they searched all the hospitals in town for the missing driver but could not trace him as well as the white dipper truck.
