Till date Manipur tests 63,000 samples for COVID-19

A total of 63,534 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till date in Manipur, the official data showed on Sunday.


Meanwhile, the COVID-19 update data of the state Health department showed the results of 1,637 samples, out of which 16 were tested positive for the virus on Sunday.


With the 16 new infections, the tally of COVID-19 cases in Manipur increased to 1,609 with 713 active cases and 896 recoveries. The recovery rate is 55.58 percent.


An official press release of the state COVID-19 Common Control Room said that 15 of the 16 new cases were females.


Six of them are from Kangpokpi, five from Senapati, three from Imphal East and one each from Chandel and Kakching.


They will be shifted to the Covid care facilities. All necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the press release said.


Meanwhile,  53 persons infected by the virus were discharged from the CCCs after they were cured from the disease on Sunday.


Sixteen of them were discharged from UNNACO CCC at Meitram in Imphal West, four from Churachandpur CCC, two each from Kakching and Senapati CCCs, 12 from RIMS CCC and nine from JNIMS CCC.


The Control Room then said that wearing a face mask is a very effective non-medical means to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The Control Room then appealed the people to wear face masks whenever they go outside of the house.
