DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 11 (MExN): The consumption of processed food is gradually gaining ground here. However, much of the processed food stuff, particularly meat, is imported from outside the state. Now, the locals can get a taste of locally processed meat with the launch of TJ Foods - a meat processing unit based in Purana Bazaar, Dimapur.
A brain child of T. Jemima Achumi, a young entrepreneur, the launch of TJ Foods was formally inaugurated by the leader of opposition in the state Legislative Assembly Tokheho Yepthomi on Tuesday, October 11. While congratulating Achumi on the venture, Yepthomi urged the manufacturing unit to maintain high safety standard at all costs.
Proprietor, Achumi said that TJ Foods is the result of two years of research, networking and building business contacts. She said that the present trend of supply in the processed meat sector here cannot meet the demands of the consumers, while there is a need to pace up the development of meat production in the state. “Considering all these (factors), it prompted me to envisage setting up this meat processing business…” she said.
The manufacturing unit will specialize in all kinds of processed meat by-products such as salami, hams, sausages etc sourced from beef, pork and poultry. All the manufacturing equipments were specially imported for the purpose while the manufacturing, starting from the processing to the packaging are strictly in line with the allowed safety standards, she added. On the advantages of processed meat, she said that it can be preserved over a longer period of time as it is ‘vacuum packed’. The products will be available in the market soon under the brand name ‘Jemmeez’.
