In any case you forgot, there was an Earthquake that struck the NE a few days back. It was then i came across some friends and family members who were joking bout the whole earthquake thing, i got a bunch of SMS bout Rajnikanth and the Earthquake etc etc.. and then on, it struck me that moment that we Naga's laughed at the very face of danger and poke the misery out of the whole thing, and I wondered why we always do that. I was browsing through Facebook going thru the updates, i did find ppl making fun of the whole thing. And what some people don't understand is, some of us would have lost a lot, properties, lives and a whole lot more if that earthquake hit 7.0 - 7.3 on the Richter scale, lucky us. It was only between 6 - 6.9. (No serious Damage but it was still scary). Yet the very next day, i thought the aftermath would be ppl rushing up and down thinking up plans and all that but as usual everyone went about their lives, made jokes and never really considered counter measures if it ever hit again.
And thus the days passed and another different incident occurred last night (8th of Feb 2010), I got a call from a dear friend who called me up to tell me that the CM house was on fire, (I didn't believe her at first, n I almost asked "this better not be another Rajnikanth joke" but I refrained myself from saying so.) I did rush to the ever famous "lovers point" near cathedral where I got a view of the raging inferno, it was bad really bad. people started rushing up and what seems to have been a quiet evening turned out to be a show for some ppl, I overheard ppl joking and passing crude comments about the whole situation and I did start getting SMS's there and then, i did send a copy to a friend of mine to get some enlightenment on the issue, but he never replied (note to that friend - dude, your reply would have helped in this note, but never the less i kick started it without u anyways). My family has a long history at the Cm's bungalow in the 70's & 80's and it all so sad to see the look on my moms face when she heard that the fire destroyed the place.
But here's what i saw in Facebook…Again, i quote "its ok yaar...He’s (Rio) got plenty", "he's filthy rich", "it's just a Govt residence"...etc etc. And some of it were posted by some close friends. Well when i think about it, it would have been better for the earthquake to have struck us(cause it wont differentiate between the classes, the people, the properties), devastated the state and then maybe we can or could stop the gibberish of joking at every little issue. We should just STOP IT, and remember that there’s a time for everything.
Sad to say we're all still Nagas with a bit of that "ancient" unruly behavior clinging to us in spite of all the years of grooming ourselves to hold a spoon and a fork, and to be, I quote "World Class". Think bout it...
