Tour students find holes in Seyochung’s admin system

Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): A recent ‘educational tour’ by students of Seyochung, in Kiphire district, has thrown up cause for dismay over the state of affairs in the area’s governing, educational and health administration. The Seyochung Area students’ Union (SASU) went on an “educational tour” during July 27-28, visiting government primary, middle and high schools as well as various government departments. The students’ union said in a press release today that there is “shortage of teachers in most of the GPS & GMS under Seyochung area.”
“Besides, most of the teachers / officers and staffs under Seyochung area and the town are out of station/ absent from their duty. This anomaly has caused untold problems in the area,” the union said in its press release, appended by its president Horiba Sangtam and vice president Lipise Jingru.
The SASU was also “surprised” at the condition of the PHC and PWD offices in Seyochung town. “The PHC Seyochung has been functioning with no doctors/pharmacist/nurses etc. They had never been in the station since their appointment and public were facing untold problems for more than a decade. It may also be mentioned that during the past few weeks due to sudden outbreak of fever like related disease, has caused more that five lives within a week and at this time of emergency, not even first aid could be provided here due to non availability of doctor/pharmacist,” the union explained.
Economic backwardness and poor communication has posed major hurdle for this Area people to reach the nearest hospital which caused death even to minor cases and all this is due to the negligence of Medical department, the union stated further. “Various NGOs, GBs and concern citizens in the area had appealed however, the plea of this left deaf ear by the concern department. Moreover, the PHC Seyochung is yet to receive ambulance, when all other PHC in the district had received since two years back.”
This “ill treatment is too much to bear and the SASU will no longer remain a silent spectator” the union said and has urged the department in concern to take the matter seriously and take necessary action urgently.
The Seyochung students are also “stunned” to see the condition of the SDO (R & B). ‘It has been occupied by an individual and become a private residence. The officer concern and its staff may have not even seen their office at Seyochung town,’ the union said.
The SASU also reaffirmed its resolution on May 28 to pursue the “No Work No Pay” stance it took about government employees, from July 2011.
The union warns that if the “concern incumbent” fails to perform his duties even after this step, the matter will be taken to the higher-ups for action.
The union also inspected construction of village gates in the area and is happy at the village councils “for the co-operation and complied with the direction given by the USSC.”
