
Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): The Nagaland department of Transport has clarified on matters related with the proposed railway line for Dimapur. Secretary to the government of Nagaland N Hangsing issued a press release in clarification to a number of points that mentioned in a story in this daily earlier on February 24.
The department said the ‘affected land owners on Dimapur-Chumukedima sector’ of the proposed railway line met on April 29, 2010 with the deputy commissioner of Dimapur. It was ‘agreed to demand land compensation at ` 60 per square feet, the department said.
Likewise, the press release said, the affected landowners in the Chumukedima-Piphema line in their meeting held on May 25, 2010 with the deputy commissioner of Dimapur had agreed to ` 10 per square feet in the hilly section and ` 25 per square feet in the developed ‘plain terraced area.’
“The rates of land compensation as quoted by the affected landowners was conveyed by the secretary Transport department to the Chief engineer, NEFR Maligaon, Guwahati, Assam on 9th August, 2010 recommending the above rates for acceptance. However, their reply is still awaited,” the department said.
On the ‘forest clearance’ of Rangapahar Zoological Park, the Transport department is said to have sent a proposal for forest clearing to the state’s Forest department on October 22, 2010. The Forest department is to take up the matter with the Ministry of Forest & Environment, Government of India, the department said. The “clearance” of the Forest department is awaited, the department said.
The department also clarified that the rate of land compensation is ‘not to be cleared or accepted by the state government’.
“The proposed rates submitted to the railways by the state government will have to be accepted by the railways who will pay the compensation out of the project cost and such payment will be made by the railways through the deputy commissioner, Dimapur,” the Transport department said.
