Chümoukedima, October 17 (MExN): Students and teachers of Trinity High School, Kohima, visited the Peace Centre in Chümoukedima for an exposure visit to learn about peacebuilding, youth empowerment and social responsibility initiatives undertaken by Peace Channel.

The Peace Centre comprises two wings — Peace Channel, an NGO and youth peace movement promoting peacebuilding and community engagement, and the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), an academic institution focusing on social work education, research, and peace and conflict transformation studies.

Kevin, proprietor of Trinity High School, expressed gratitude to the Peace Centre for its hospitality and appreciated Peace Channel's efforts in promoting peace education. He said the school was among the first to associate with Peace Channel and that all members of its school community were Peace Club members.

During the visit, an account was shared of a former Peace Club member whose involvement in peacebuilding inspired her to pursue social work. She later joined NEISSR as a faculty member and is currently preparing for competitive examinations. The story highlighted the role of peace education in shaping young people's aspirations and career choices.

Addressing the students, Fr C P Anto, founder of Peace Channel and principal of NEISSR, encouraged them to follow the “3 Ds” — discipline, dedication and diligence — to achieve their goals. He urged them to develop a clear vision, remain committed to their aspirations and grow into responsible citizens and agents of peace.

Anto also spoke about Bloom's Taxonomy and emphasised creative, interactive and student-centred teaching methods to promote critical thinking and holistic development.

The students and teachers visited NEISSR, described as the first institute of social work in Nagaland, and explored the Peace Garden, Peace Library and Peace Museum. At the museum, they learned about the contributions of Peace Award recipients from 2009 to 2025.

The visit provided an opportunity for the school community to learn about Peace Channel's initiatives and its efforts to foster peace, understanding and nonviolence among young people.

Peace Channel expressed its commitment to strengthening its association with Trinity High School and encouraging students to become “Channels of Peace” in their schools and communities.
