TRS FC emerged champions of the inaugural Tuensang District Futsal Championship 2026 after defeating Nyenshen FC 6-3 in the final played at Nyenshen Futsal Arena on May 30.
Organised by the Tuensang District Football Association (TDFA), the two-day tournament began on May 29 and featured 10 teams from across the district. A total of 20 league-stage matches were played before the competition progressed to the knockout rounds.
The opening programme was attended by L Sanglekhumba, President of the Chang Wedoshi Setshang, as the special guest.
Addressing participants, Sanglekhumba compared football to life, saying both involve struggles and challenges, and that those who overcome difficulties ultimately emerge as champions. He also stressed the importance of unity and teamwork, noting that managers, players and supporters all contribute to a team’s success.
He urged players and officials to value their supporters, describing them as the backbone of every team.
Delivering the keynote address, TDFA president Menyawongto highlighted the importance of district-level futsal competitions in providing opportunities for talented players to progress to higher levels of competition. He also noted that clubs and teams are key stakeholders in the growth and development of futsal in the district.
The players’ oath was administered by Chuba Jongshi, a member of the TDFA Referee Board, before the tournament was officially declared open.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Toji A. Chang, Assistant General Secretary of TDFA, while the invocation was pronounced by Bendang Sangtam, Vice-President of the association. A cultural performance was presented by the Lomou Khel Youth Union Dance Studio.
In the semifinals, Group A winners TRS FC defeated Group B runners-up Brotherhood FC 7-2, while Group A runners-up Nyenshen FC overcame Group B winners Sleepy Brothers 9-3 to secure a place in the final.
TRS FC continued their dominant run in the championship decider, defeating Nyenshen FC 6-3 to clinch the inaugural title.
The champions received the championship trophy, certificates and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while runners-up Nyenshen FC were awarded certificates and a cash prize of Rs 7,000.
The Best Player award went to I. Khumzuk, goalkeeper of TRS FC, who received a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1,000 in recognition of his performances throughout the tournament.
With the victory, TRS FC also earned the right to represent Tuensang district at the forthcoming Nagaland Futsal Club Championship.
