DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): One police ‘jawan’ was killed in a tragic road accident in Dimapur on Thursday, July 21. The deceased identified as one Sungtangmongba (30 years) of Molungyimsen village, Mokokchung district, was run over by the rear wheels of a truck near the busy inter-state bus stand, Golaghat Road. It occurred at around 12:30 pm. He was a constable of the 13th NAP (IR) and was attached with the battalion’s ‘Charlie Company’.
The driver of the truck, one Lookman Neuk (23 years) was taken into custody by the traffic police. According to the driver’s statement, the traffic police said that the vehicle was proceeding towards Tragopan point from the railway station side.
When the vehicle was approaching the intersection leading to Eros Lane, the driver reportedly saw the deceased hailing an autorickshaw a little ahead on the driver’s right of the road.
The tragedy occurred at about the place where he saw the deceased hailing the autorickshaw. How the deceased got into contact with the truck and came under its wheels, the driver told the traffic police, he could not figure out. No other witnesses came forward to provide any neutral statement.
Following the necessary legal formalities, the body was later handed over to the deceased’s unit.
