Tseminyu, April 12 (MExN): The NPF Youth Wing, Tseminyu Division, in collaboration with the Tseminyu Town Councillors, organised a two-day inter-ward sports meet under the theme “Victory Over Drugs, One District One Mission,” anchored by the pledge “Play Clean, Stay Clean.”
The event witnessed participation from athletes and community members across Tseminyu Town, focusing on sportsmanship, unity, and awareness against drug abuse.
The inaugural programme on Day 1 was graced by Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japhet Woch, as special guest. The programme featured an invocation, welcome address, special presentation, and an oath-taking ceremony led by Gwalo Kent, Deputy Chairperson of Tseminyu Town Council, and Sokenye Kent, President of the NPF Youth Wing, along with other officials.
In his address, Woch stressed the importance of discipline and punctuality in sports and highlighted concerns over drug abuse, intoxicants, and HIV/AIDS in the district. He stated that sports can serve as a rehabilitation tool to guide youth away from harmful practices. Participants also took a collective pledge to “Play Clean, Stay Clean.”
Earlier, a marathon run was flagged off at 5:00 AM by Tseminyu Town Council Chairperson Ruth Thong, with a briefing by Walathong Jemu.
The closing and prize distribution ceremony on Day 2 was held with Chairman of Tseminyu Union, Jwenga Kent, as special guest. The programme included an invocation by Rev Tusaya Kath, an event report by Nathan Kent, and short speeches by dignitaries.
Jwenga Kent said that the youth of Tseminyu have the potential to compete at state and national levels and encouraged them to pursue sports as a constructive alternative to destructive habits.
Hyunilo Anilo Khing, Honorary Secretary of the Nagaland Cricket Association, in his address, stated that sports is a fast-growing industry and a viable career option. He added that sports fosters unity and helps bridge generational gaps.
Ward No. 7 (Tsonchosen) emerged as the overall champion of the meet, delivering consistent performances across disciplines.
In the marathon (men’s open), Ambrose Magh of Ward No. 5 secured first place, followed by Senchulo Magh (Ward No. 3) and Shahilo Khing (Ward No. 4). In the women’s category, Behisha Kent (Ward No. 3) finished first, with Tesinye Semp (Ward No. 7) and Lydia Khing (Ward No. 7) placing second and third respectively.
Tenyehun Tep (12) and Shayhun Kent (13) were the youngest participants to complete the marathon, while Gwatilo Tep (57) was the oldest finisher.
In badminton men’s doubles, Sonyelo and Moameren clinched first place, while Sogwalo and Alfred finished second. Ward No. 4 won the mixed doubles badminton event, with Ward No. 9 as runners-up. Ward No. 3 won the carrom board event, followed by Ward No. 6. In the women’s penalty shootout, Ward No. 2 secured first place, while Ward No. 7 finished second. In men’s futsal, Ward No. 8 emerged as champions, with Ward No. 7 as runners-up.
An exhibition T20 cricket match between Tseminyu District Cricket and Rengma Selo Zi was also held on April 10.
The organisers expressed gratitude to all contributors and sponsors, including GSports, KALKi, Lorin Financials, Kragbuzz, K&S Constructions, and BadmintonHub, and stated that efforts are underway to make the inter-ward sports meet an annual event.
