Tuensang, July 24 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, has ordered the immediate evacuation and emergency demolition of the District Transport Office (DTO) building at Post Office Ward after it was declared structurally unsafe.
The order follows an inspection conducted on July 23 by a structural and technical committee comprising experts, the DDMA and ward officials.
According to the inspection report, the building has suffered severe structural destabilisation due to incessant rainfall, rendering it unsafe and at risk of collapse, posing a direct threat to human life and nearby public infrastructure.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the District Transport Office to vacate the premises within 24 hours of the issuance of the order. The building will be demolished on an emergency basis to prevent loss of life and avert any secondary disaster impact.
The Disaster Response Force under the PWD (Housing) has been authorised to carry out the demolition in consultation with the District Transport Officer within the stipulated timeframe.
The administration has also prohibited entry of the public and unauthorised persons into the area during the demolition operation.
