Tuensang, October 5 (MExN): The Tuensang Forest Division observed Wildlife Week 2026 at Nakshou village on Monday under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya (Nagaland) Project, with a focus on wildlife conservation, biodiversity protection and community participation in sustainable forest management.
The programme was chaired by Ngaku Somba, FGD, and began with an invocation by B. Akhong, Pastor. Akhang Jongshi, Village Council Chairman, Nakshou, delivered the welcome note.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Prabhat Kumar, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Tuensang Forest Division, highlighted the importance of protecting wildlife and conserving the region's rich biodiversity.
He emphasised the need for collective responsibility and stronger community participation in safeguarding forests and wildlife for future generations.
As part of the celebration, competitions in poster making and Best CCA Conservation Display were organised, providing participants and communities an opportunity to showcase their creativity and conservation initiatives.
The programme also featured a Project Impact presentation by the CCA Committee, highlighting the contributions and outcomes of conservation and community-based activities undertaken under the project.
The results were subsequently announced, followed by a prize distribution ceremony recognising the efforts and participation of the winners.
Sichola, FcOM, delivered the closing note, followed by a benediction by Mungla, APW.
The celebration concluded with a group photograph and lunch, bringing together officials, community representatives and participants in a spirit of collective commitment towards wildlife and biodiversity conservation.
The Wildlife Week celebration served as a platform to reinforce the message that wildlife protection is a shared responsibility and that strong community participation is essential for long-term conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.
