Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): Two extortionists were arrested on September 19 in two separate incidents in Dimapur.
A press note from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur stated that in the first case, the Dimapur Police Special Branch personnel arrested one ‘ss maj’ Khehoto Yepthomi of NNC (NA), a resident of Niu Colony, Burma Camp from Golaghat Road, Dimapur while he was forcibly extorting money from some wayside vendors in the area. A sum of Rs 500/- and a copy of meeting minutes held on September 9 between ‘town command’ and ‘civil commander’ NNC(NA) with one seal of ‘town command’ NNC(NA), Dimapur was recovered and seized from his possession.
In the second incident, Dimapur Police acting on a tip-off from a reliable source that a miscreant is extorting money from the shopkeepers near SBI main Branch, Dimapur rushed to the area and arrested one person identified as SS assistant sectional officer of NSCN (IM) Aloto Shikhu, a resident of Thilixu village, Dimapur. One letter of NSCN/GPRN (Ministry of Kilo Affairs) authorizing Aloto Shikhu to deal with the registration of shops, one note containing the names of shops and the amount collected and Rs 5000 in cash were recovered from his possession, the note said.
Cases have been registered against the accused for extortion and investigation is on.
