Troops of Assam Rifles on Tuesday apprehended two Myanmar nationals along with 27.90 kg of brown sugar valued over Rs 55 crore ( international market value), an official source said.
The two foreign nationals were arrested from from H Molnom, a Manipur village located near the Indo-Myanmar border where the AR launched an operation based on specific information at around 4 am of March 7, it said.
The duo came in a Kenbo bike and the contraband was found in 648 soap cases inside a gunny bag they were carrying.
During spot verification, the Myanmar nationals identified themselves as Kima (25) and Thara (22). Both hailed from Tamu town of Myanmar, the source informed.
They were handed over to Moreh police station of Tengnoupal district along with the recovered contraband drugs for further necessary legal actions, it added.
