Two women among three held with drugs in Manipur

Two women were among three persons arrested with a huge quantity of contraband drugs in separate incidents, a police source said on October 17.


The source said that troops of 12 Assam Rifles apprehended a man with 52,000 pieces of WY tablet and 12 packets of Brown Sugar which would worth together around Rs 1.80 crore in the international market.


The troops intercepted the contraband items during a check to an Eco Van at its Khudengthabi check post along NH-102 Wednesday evening, around 6.30 pm.


The driver of the vehicle was detained following the recovery of the contraband items which was found concealed in the vehicle, the source said.  On the other hand, police in Jiribam district of Manipur arrested two women along with No. 4 (Heroin) powder weighting around 24 gram which would worth around Rs 12 lakh in the local market.
Police personnel on duty at the foreigner check post along NH-37 arrested the two women.


They were coming on a Cruiser passenger vehicle originating from Imphal and about to head Silchar of Assam after crossing the check post of the police on the Manipur side of inter-state border with Assam.


The two women along with the seized contraband items were later handed over to Jiribam police station where a case has been lodged against them, the source added.
