Ukhrul August 22 : Imagine life without electricity in this era. Life without electricity supply for almost 10 days in Ukhrul has turned the town a dark town.
The people of Ukhrul district have not been enjoying power supply since August 14 and have completely isolated the citizens from their daily routine. The citizens are all cursing the government in various ways and words.
The most effected are about 25,000 school students aside from the public. Cl-IV and V students Kh. Thotreising and Ningnganung from Ukhrul Kendriya Vidyalaya School said they are unable to study. Rather, they have stopped studying as there is no power in their homes, they told this correspondent.
Many families in Ukhrul who cannot afford a private generator, solar or other light gadgets are facing immense problems. Kerosene oil is unavailable in the market, so families normally eat eating before the sun sets, which is very unusual and inconvenient for the people.
Gadgets especially, rechargeable goods including tens of thousands mobile handsets and other devices, are now off due to complete shutdown of power supply in Ukhrul.
When the Power office was contacted, source said the Mahadev and Litan 33KV Line was ‘punctured’ and the Transmission & Construction division-11 of Imphal is responsible for repair works. Some snags have been reportedly detected near Hundung Cement Factory but repair works are ‘not under the purview of the Ukhrul Power division,’ sources disclosed.
