UNC reiterates FA principles on 10th anniversary

Senapati, August 3 (NNN): Marking the 10th anniversary of the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015, the United Naga Council (UNC) on Saturday reminded all stakeholders of the Agreement’s fundamental principles.

The UNC said the Government of India had acknowledged the Nagas' “unique history and position,” stating that Nagas have never been part of India or Myanmar “by consent or conquest.” It described the situation as “a case of invasion of Nagalim by India, not a law and order problem of India.”

Citing the Agreement, the UNC said sovereignty lies with the people in a democracy and asserted that “the sovereignty of Nagalim lies with the Naga people.” It said shared sovereignty entails both the Indian and Naga peoples exercising sovereign powers in areas defined by competencies.

The UNC further stated that the Government of India had proposed “an enduring inclusive and new relationship of peaceful co-existence” with the Nagas, which includes all Nagas, political groups, and territories.

On the issues of the Naga flag and constitution, the UNC said these are integral to sovereignty and known to Indian leaders. “There is no ambiguity about it,” it said, calling on the Government of India to “walk the talk” instead of prolonging negotiations.
