Unions flay Aokong GB

Dimapur, July 17 (MExN): The Choginjun Range union (CRU) Dimapur has alleged GB of Aokong Colony Y Yarmongba of ‘kidnapping and torturing’ one of its members, Gwakenye Semp, 24 years-old on July 13.
In a press note issued by the CRU president G Rengma stated: “…Mr. Gwakenye Semp (24), S/o Lt. Pfuphega Semp who was forcibly dragged away, kidnapped, inhumanly tortured and put inside a cage by Y Yarmongba, GB of Aokong Colony on 13th July at about 1:00 PM. Accusing him of stealing a mobile handset belonging to his daughter without any proof and evidence (sic).”
The note also stated that the ‘victim’ was charged of stealing the mobile handset about which he knew nothing. “He claimed his innocence but was not listened. He was beaten “black and blue” with a heavy wooden bar whole over the body and was hospitalized. The G.B and his boys kept on torturing him till 11:00 P.M. and put him inside the cage (sic),” it added.
Moreover, it has questioned: “Is G.B. Y. Yarmongba above the law? Has he really lost the mobile handset? What is the monetary value of that mobile handset for which the G.B. committed torture? Is he a goon – leader?”
The CRU has condemned the GB’s action against its member. It also claimed that the victim is innocent and has called upon every “sensible citizens” of the society. It has also appealed the responsible authority to penalize the GB with a befitting punishment as per the law.
Also, in a separate press note, the Rengma Students’ Union Dimapur (RSUD) has condemned the incident. The Daniel Semp president of the RSUD on behalf of the union stated in the note that Gwakenye Semp was tortured without any ‘prior reason’.
The union has appealed the concerned the authority to take appropriate action against the culprit as per the law.
