Unite & Reign - NSUS celebrates Naga I-Day in Shillong

Shillong, August 16 (MExN): Under the theme, “Unite et Regnabit” (Unite and Reign), the Naga Students’ Union Shillong (NSUS) celebrated the 76th Naga Independence Day at Don Bosco Technical Institute, Shillong on August 14 with Naga Hoho President HK Zhimomi as the chief guest.

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), the Naga Post Graduate Students’ Council Committee also joined the NSUS in the celebration.

As per an NSUS release, Zhimomi in his address  highlighted important historic events of the Naga struggle in order to “educate and remind the Naga youths in Shillong so that they do not be confused by the divisive policies employed to divide the Naga nation.”

Sharing his experience as a leader and a social activist, he asserted that “freedom is not a demand by the Nagas to the Indian Government, but asking back what is rightfully theirs and to recognize and respect their rights,” it said. 

“The talk is uncertain, but there are possibilities and a high change of the Naga solution in the near future,” he added. 
Earlier, the chief guest along with the NSUS President of the Imeka Zhehoto Awomi hoisted the Naga National Flag accompanied by the Naga National anthem led by the Chakhesang Students Union.

In his welcome address, NSUS President, Awomi highlighted the importance of bringing all Nagas under one roof and the importance of the glorious Naga legacy and stressed on the necessity to instil and preserve the legacy among the younger generation.

Nonwarngam Chisi, President of Moyon Students’ Union, Shillong spoke on the Naga Vision to live in a united Naga nation, while President of Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Shillong, Ab. Dizinbou re-emphasised the “pre-ordained Naga destiny,” which the founding fathers laid down a provision to the vision of one people one nation. 

The General Secretary of the Khasi Students’ Union, Bah Donald, in his speech also expressed his pain over the “atrocities done to the Nagas by the armed Indian forces” and noted that  the” flame of the Naga revolution must never die and must be passed on to the generations to come.” 

The celebration concluded with vote of thanks by NSUS Vice President Lipoknungchet Walling, the release added.
