Manipur Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh said that he would apprise the Union Human Resources Ministry about the urgent requirements of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur, during his next visit to the national capital. He was speaking at the 6thConvocation of the institute held at its campus located at Langol in Imphal West district on Monday.
N. Biren said that NIT Manipur is one of the premier technical institutes of not only this region but also of the nation. The institute has in its nine years of existence had proven its mettle by earning a commendable reputation in the field of technical and higher education and research by competing with the best institutes in the country, he said, while adding that this was possible because of the dedication, hard work and perseverance of members of the institute and its students. He expressed confidence that the institute would continue to do quality research in traditional as well as technical branches of knowledge.
While extending best wishes to the graduating students, the Chief Minister also expressed hope that they would work with dedication, honesty and serve the nation for the welfare of the people and society.
Stating that continuous efforts are being made by the Government to strengthen the educational institutes in the State, N. Biren Singh further said that the State Government had launched 'School Fagathansi Mission' to strengthen the school infrastructures across the State. He also said that steps are also being taken up to strengthen higher educational and technical institutes.
NIT Manipur Director Prof. Goutam Sutradhar presided over the function which was also attended by Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, Prof. T.G. Sitharam and Director of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, Prof. Parthasarathi Chakrabarti as guests of honour.
Later, the Chief Minister led other dignitaries in presenting gold medals to toppers and conferment of degrees to PhD, MTech, MSc and BTech students who have passed out this year from the institute.
