Wokha declared ‘drug-free district’ by Lotha Youth Hoho, ban from May 1

Wokha, April 23 (MExN): Expressing deep concern over the rising menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) has declared Wokha a “drug-free district” and imposed a complete ban on the sale, possession, and distribution of all illegal drugs and narcotic substances within the town’s jurisdiction, effective May 1, 2026.

The decision comes amid reports that Wokha District reportedly has the highest number of drug users in the state, a situation the LYH described as a “serious threat” to youths, families, and the community at large.

In a press release, LYH President Mharomo V Murry and General Secretary Wopenthung L Ezung said that despite repeated awareness campaigns, anti-social elements continue to destroy lives, especially of young people, through the illegal drug trade.

“Our youths, families and our community are under serious threat,” the LYH leaders said.

Violators of the ban will face a fine of Rs 50,000 and permanent expulsion from Wokha District. The LYH said it will constitute a special task force in coordination with law enforcement agencies to conduct regular checks, surprise raids, and patrols.

The Hoho made an earnest appeal to all sections of society to extend full cooperation, adding, “Let us reclaim our future, let us save our youths.”
