Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): The Wokha village council, women, youth organisation and students union of Wokha Village have condemned the incident at Merapani where the life one Y. Lotha, a citizen of Wokha village, residing at Merapani was attempted.
Giving an account of the incident, Wokha Village Council and subordinate organisations in a press note stated that Y. Lotha an honest man, is a social worker working for peace amongst the people in the border of Nagaland and Assam. It is unfortunate that following the incident at Lakhuti on August 14, Soru Bhai Ali brutally murdered his business partner Lt. Habib Ali and as a result through rumour, life attempt on Y. Lotha was made for no fault of him. The note alleged that the attempt was led by a group of “Muslim” mob at Merapani led by Rakit Hamid. The mob destroyed several properties including heavy and light vehicles, a workshop in his compound was completely destroyed and marble slabs of his RCC building under construction at the ground floor were also destroyed. Sensing danger to his life, Y Lotha tried to escape through one of the corner of the house by jumping outside during which he seriously injured his left knee.
The press note issued by the Wokha Village Council, Chairman Yanasao and Secretary Nlongtsu Tungoe demands for stern action against the perpetrators by both the government of Nagaland and Assam, particularly District Administrations and Law Enforcing Agencies of Wokha and Golaghat Districts; To immediately arrest Rakit Hamid and those who were involved in the crime and book them as per law; to adequately compensate the lost of properties caused to Y. Lotha; to post the neutral forces in the border areas who will be impartial to the people of Nagaland and Assam.
The council also appeals to all right thinking people to maintain peace and harmony in the Border Areas for peaceful co-existence and to maintain age-old friendship.
