Women employment rate high in Mizoram

Aizawl, June 30 (NNN): A statistical survey shows that while 32.7 % of women from rural sector are employed in India, whereas in Mizoram  44.1 % womem from rural sector were employed during 2004-2005.  Again, while 16.6 % of urban women are employed in entire India, whereas 28.1 % of urban women are employed in Mizoram.
This was revealed at the 5th  Statistics Day observed at Aijal Club Conference Hall, Aizawl on Wednesday where a study on sex ratio in Mizoram, a paper prepared by Economics & Statistics Research Officer C. Vanlalmuana was reviewed. The paper shows that of the total women employment 10.64% is under the Central Government, whereas 24.84% are under the State Government: 35.02% are under Semi-Govt; 26.09%,  in Bank and Insuarance company; 15.75%  under District Council,  and 32.03% from other sectors. As per 2001 Census the sex ratio (Male: Female) in Mizoram was  1000:964, whereas in 2011 the ratio comes 1000:971.
Sex ratios as per 2011 in district wise tells another story, 1009 women in every 1000 men in Aizawl, 981 in Champhai, 978 in Saiha, 976 in Serchhip, 956 in Kolasib, 945 in Lawngtlai, 944 in Lunglei, and 924 in Mamit. In terms of literacy rate, however, the percentage of men is higher than women.
