Kohima, September 30 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a state workshop on the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Campaign at Jalukie town in Peren District on September 30.

The programme aimed at sensitising citizens on the importance of promoting local products for building a self-reliant India.

Delivering the keynote address, Pintu M. Ghosh, State Secretary and Co-Convenor of the campaign, said that a self-reliant India can only be achieved through a self-reliant Nagaland. He highlighted the importance of being “vocal for local” and called upon every citizen to actively promote local products. He stressed that every individual has a responsibility to encourage and promote local products, adding that the campaign must reach every household “till the last mile.”

“By making local products stronger than foreign goods, India can truly become self-reliant,” he said, highlighting that before 2014, there were only two local product manufacturing factories in the country, whereas after the BJP came to power, more than 300 local product manufacturing factories have been established using swadeshi materials. Ghosh further announced that BJP Nagaland will soon organise statewide quiz, reel, and essay competitions, alongside house-to-house campaigns to create awareness on supporting local businesses.

In his introductory speech, Zaremo Kikon, State Vice President and Convenor of the campaign, shared the genesis of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Campaign and led the gathering in taking a swadeshi pledge to work towards a self-reliant India.

Also speaking at the workshop, Basu Damani, State Vice President and Peren District In-charge, lauded the movement and emphasised that purchasing local products keeps the economy within the country, whereas spending on foreign goods only benefits overseas companies.

The workshop was chaired by Kakuto Chishi Chief Spokesperson and Member of the campaign. Invocation was pronounced by Tracy Newmai, District Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha Peren, while the welcome address was delivered by Chituing Mbung, District Vice President BJP Peren. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Atila Phom, State Vice President and Co-Convenor of the campaign.
