Workshop stresses scientific SWM in Chumoukedima

Chümoukedima, July 2 (MExN): A one-day workshop on solid waste management was organised in Chümoukedima to sensitise urban stakeholders and promote sustainable waste management practices in the district, officials said.

The workshop, held at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Room on June 30, was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner T Lemlila Sangtam.

The programme aimed to equip stakeholders of Chümoukedima town to serve as torchbearers and role models in achieving sustainable growth and establishing an effective solid waste management system in the district.

Resource persons from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and the Department of Urban Development addressed the participants.

The workshop was attended by councillors of the Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC), members of the Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce and other stakeholders.

Held under the theme "Freedom from Garbage", the workshop highlighted the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, with particular emphasis on waste segregation, collection and scientifically sound disposal in line with the updated statutory framework.

Participants were encouraged to play a leading role in promoting responsible solid waste management practices to support sustainable urban development in Chümoukedima.
