Football fever is already sweeping through Nagaland months before the first whistle of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Outside a sports shop in Chümoukedima, national flags, scarves and team merchandise reflect the deep passion of Naga fans and their unwavering loyalties. Along the NH-29 corridor, shops and homes are increasingly adorned with flags and football memorabilia as supporters proudly display their allegiance to their favourite teams. For many in Nagaland, the World Cup is more than a tournament—it is a four-yearly tradition. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
