Mon, July 18 (MExN): A week-long World Population Day Campaign 2026 promoting family planning and healthy birth spacing concluded across Mon district on July 18, with 367 IUCD (Cu-T) insertions and 233 Antara injectable contraceptives administered during the campaign.

Organised by the District Programme Management Unit (DPMU), National Health Mission (NHM), Mon, the campaign was held under the theme, “Healthy Timing and Spacing Between Pregnancies for the Well-being of Mother and Child and to Prevent Unintended Pregnancies.”

According to an update from NHM Mon, the campaign focused on raising awareness about family planning, promoting healthy birth spacing and ensuring access to quality family planning services for eligible beneficiaries.

The campaign was launched on July 11, following which Moie Bonnie Konyak oriented health personnel from all blocks on its implementation strategy. Health workers were directed to intensify community sensitisation, pre-register beneficiaries and mobilise eligible couples to access family planning services in their respective areas.

During the week, ASHAs and ASHA Coordinators conducted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities through focused group discussions and interpersonal communication sessions, reaching approximately 220 eligible mothers across the district.

The Mission Parivar Vikas–SAARTHI Awareness on Wheels also travelled across various villages to raise awareness about healthy timing and spacing between pregnancies and inform communities about contraceptive choices available under the National Family Planning Programme.

Family planning services provided during the campaign included IUCD (Cu-T) insertions and Antara injectable contraceptives, besides the distribution of condoms, oral contraceptive pills and emergency contraceptive pills.

Overall, the campaign recorded 367 IUCD (Cu-T) insertions and 233 Antara injectable contraceptives administered, along with the distribution of various contraceptives to eligible beneficiaries across the district, the update stated.

NHM Mon attributed the implementation of the campaign to the coordinated efforts of the DPMU, Medical Officers, healthcare workers, ASHAs, ASHA Coordinators, BPMs and other frontline health personnel.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening family planning services and ensuring access to safe, voluntary and informed reproductive health choices for eligible couples.
