The Western Sümi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) and Sümi Officers Union Dimapur (SOUD) have launched the ‘Lajupu Meritorious Scholarship’ to assist women candidates preparing for competitive exams such as NPSC, NSSB, and other state-level Competitive Exams.
The scholarship, which offers a seven-month coaching programme, aims to provide a significant platform for Sumi women to excel in these examinations.
The coaching sessions will take place at the NPSC Mentors Coaching Centre, located in 3rd Mile, Chümoukedima, opposite to Chekiye Village gate. The center will support 10 selected candidates from various backgrounds, empowering them to advance in their professional aspirations. This initiative is part of a broader effort to uplift the women of the Sumi community and ensure their representation in key administrative roles.
The scholarship was officially launched in 2023, following the encouragement and support of the Commerce & Industries Advisor & MLA, Hekani Jakhalu. The initiative was inaugurated at the WSTH Silver Jubilee celebration under the banner of Sumi Women “Sülimi.” Jakhalu emphasised that the programme is part of an ongoing effort to uplift the socio-economic status of Sumi women by equipping them with essential skills and knowledge.
The selected women will undergo intensive coaching that will prepare them for the NPSC and NSSB exams. The initiative has been met with widespread appreciation from the Sumi community, with many seeing it as a crucial step toward achieving gender equality and empowering women to take on leadership roles in government services.
