The Youth Association Marepkong (YAM) will be organizing the 2nd Mokokchung Town Inter Ward Football Tournament 2020 from March 17 under the theme “Towards Excellence.”
YAM leaders while addressing the press at AKM Conference Hall here today informed that all formalities for organizing the ten-day tournament has been completed and that registration forms for the tournament will be issued from February 10 onwards.
Convener of the tournament, Bendangnukshi said that the tournament is being organized with the objective of promoting local players. “Earlier, sport was considered as mere co-curricular activity but now, sport is an industry,” he said. He also solicited the support of all the 18 wards as well as football lovers and hoped that all the wards would participate in the tournament. Last year, 3 of the 18 wards under Mokokchung town failed to participate in the tournament that was won by Arkong Ward.
The last date for issuing and submission of forms will be February 9, 2020. Registration Forms will be available at Cyber 48, MMC Complex. Only genuine residents whose antecedents are endorsed by the respective ward authorities will be allowed to play in the tournament. The tournament will be played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung and revenue from ticket sales will be shared in equal halves between the organizers and the participating teams.
Through the tournament, YAM also hopes to foster unity among the youngsters of the 18 wards of Mokokchung. The tournament will be plastic-free, the organizers informed. To be played in the league-cum-knock out format, the champions of the tournament will be awarded cash prize, trophy and certificates while the runners-up will be awarded cash prize and certificates.
Individual prizes for best goal keeper, highest goal scorer, best defender and player of the tournament will be awarded. For more details, interested persons may contact the organizers at 9856512399 or 9615230847.
The YAM was formed in 2020 and is the sole youth organization of Marepkong ward under Mokokchung town recognized by the ward authority and empaneled with the District Youth Resources Office, Mokokchung. Apart from promoting sports, YAM also works for the welfare of the youths of the ward, promotes academic excellence, works for the welfare of the ward in general in cooperation with the ward authority. They also work for preservation of culture and environment protection, among others.
