
Dimapur, April 18 (MExN): Nagaland state Agriculture and allied departments led by parliamentary secretary for Veterinary & A.H, Yitachu attended the 21st regional committee –III meeting of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) held at Assam Agricultural university campus Jorhat, Assam from April 17 to 18.
At the meeting, Yitachu, who is also a member of regional committee-III, presented agendas to be deliberated and addressed by the agricultural scientist of ICAR and the state governments of NEH region.
Notable among the agendas was the establishment of veterinary college in Nagaland under the Central Agricultural University as recommended and committed during the 19th regional committee-III ICAR meeting, where the state government “is ready to facilitate the process”. Taking into account the non vegetarian food habit of the state and the region as a whole, he also presented agenda related to assessing and monitoring chemical residuals in meat which is of paramount public health concern. Concurrently, an agenda on the need to circumvent the major constrain in the production of livestock and poultry in the region was also presented. He also appealed to the ICAR authority to favourably consider the agendas submitted by the Agri and allied departments of Nagaland. While wishing the conference a grand success, Yitachu also requested the next regional ICAR committee meeting be held in Nagaland.
Meanwhile chief minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi while delivering his inaugural speech at the meeting thanked and lauded the contribution of ICAR towards food security of the northeast region of the country. Further, he also encouraged ICAR and officials of the Agri and allied departments of NEH region to strive harder to ensure food security a reality, rather than a goal and also raise the standard of agricultural education and research to a world standard.
