Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): Tikhir Women Union Kiphire has condemned the alleged abduction of four Tikhirs by the Yimchungru Liberation Front (YLF) on August 29 from High Bridge between Sekiur and Lasukiur village, while they were travelling from Waphur to Kiusum Town to attend Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) meeting.
The union in a condemnation note issued by its president S.Santsushi and general secretary Raisushi stated that the four persons were kidnapped and tortured.
“…attempt upon the innocent public without any guilt is a violation against Human right of the universe, where the victim was blind folded and severely beaten up by the wood and gun butts and taken away on the riverside supposed to be shot to dead, but with the intervention of the government agencies the victim life could save from the very arm man (sic),” it added.
The union in the note alleged that the demand made by the Yimchunger Tribal council (YTC) to the state government to arrest Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) leaders was not fulfilled and that it made them to inflict their discontentment to the innocent Tikhirs, which it is a direct insult to the government to show their strength of the “terrorist activities” before the Naga people, where it shall not be tolerated in any circumstance by the union and the Nagas as a whole.
Retorting further, the union has termed YLF as “purely a terrorist gang targeting to corrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the area” and has called upon every Naga responsible leaders from various organization to view seriously and take stern action against the Yimchunger leaders and the “YLF gang”.
ASU condemns atrocious act
The Anatongre Students Union (ASU) has condemned the incident where four Tikhir were kidnapped and assaulted on August 29 at High bridge. A press note issued by Khiapong, president and Lunyankiu Tikhir, social & cultural secretary, ASU stated that the victims were later on taken to Longkong village, where they were said to have been blindfolded and physically assaulted, allegedly by the Yimchunger Liberation Front.
The union stated that this act was just the facet of one of the covetous idea/desire of the Yimchunger to claim Shamator as their land/people “since they (Yimchunger) are living in an extremely barren condition with rocky hills and seriously suffering from land problem. Whatever you say, whatever claims you make no matter what this is the sole reason why Yimchunger are infringing the rights of Tikhirs. Having this apprehension of the future, the Yimchunger are desperately trying their underhand ideas on Tikhirs like kidnapping, intimidation, sabotaging and many heinous and insane acts”.
The union also further condemns the statement made by the president, YTC that, “there was no organization such as Yimchunger Liberation Front”. However, the union contends that YLF was aided, funded and raised by the YTC for perpetrating atrocious acts towards the peace loving Tikhir like recent incident at High Bridge.
The union in the note stated that it also seriously notes that the kidnapping and assaulting was not the first time, and was solely the brainchild of YTC and other public leaders so as to call the Shamator Village Council to sign and make a commitment to become a Yimchunger under gunpoint. Nevertheless the union warns that in any form if such covetous desires/ideas are not stopped at the right time, it will reply with befitting response.
