Young novices vow of religious profession

Newly professed Sisters during the Congregation of the Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on September 29.

Dimapur, September 30 (MExN): In a solemn catholic traditional vestition ceremony, eight young novices today made their vows of Religious Profession as the consecrated nuns of the ‘Sisters of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS)’ a hundred-year-old independent and indigenous women congregation dedicated to religious preaching, education and health care.
The elaborate ceremony was organized at a well-decked SABS Chapel in Chumukedima Dimapur during the Eucharist Mass presided over by Bishop of Kohima Rt Rev James Thopil.
Soon after their profession of chastity, poverty and obedience, the novices received the ‘Habit’ (Nun’s clothe) from Provincial Superior of SABS.
Vestition symbolizes the transformation of secular person into a religious. Thus, the attire of the world is shed off to put on the Habit as a symbol of putting on Christ, the model of every religious. The parents and relatives accompanying the novices during the formal ceremony also manifest their support for their daughters’ vocation and commitment to congregation’s obligations. But the ceremony is much more of a beginning than an end as the religious formation is an ongoing process that lasts an entire life.
Rt Rev Bishop James Thopil in his sermon to the gathering explains that the vestition of the novices, who have committed themselves to God and human’s service freely and willingly, is not an end in itself but a beginning of their journey of struggles. The Bishop also urged the gathering to help the novices to fulfill their vows to live a life of chastity, poverty and obedience through prayers and support.
The celebration was attended by hundreds of people including nuns, priests and relatives of the novices from Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Assam and Kerala.
A press note informed that among them Sr. Jane Mary Puthiyaparampil and Sr. Linsa Thayil hail from Pala Diocese Kerala, Sr. Veronica Rabha and Sr. Ans Maria Rabha from Ambagoan Parish Tezpur Diocese Assam, Sr. Margaret Patton from Wokha Parish Kohima Diocese, Nagaland, Sr. Rosebella Jalong from Mawbri Parish Shillong Archdiocese Meghalaya, Sr. Josephine Chipang Ukhrul Parish, and Sr. Seraphia Thithi from Purul Parish, Imphal Archdiocese Manipur.
