Zeliang students union clarify on press statement

Dimapur, October 9, (MExN): The Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland, the major constituent of the Zeliang People Organization, Nagaland, is appalled over the double standard management of things by Penam, who reportedly had signed the joined press statement along with the Chakhesang Students’ Union, the Pochury Students Union, and the Rengma Students Union and published in the newspapers (Nagaland Post on the 8th of October 2011) claiming to be the president of Zeliang Students Union Nagaland.
Iteichu Zeliang, president, Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland in a press statement stated that, the joint statement issued, was over the matter that concerns the aspiring candidates for the special recruitment drive (SRD) of 10 posts of EAC from the 9 recognised tribes of Nagaland and the Rengma tribe wherein student bodies of the four tribes viz, the Chakhesang, Zeliang, Pochury and the Rengma were understood to be venting out their grievances.
The press note stated that it is to be made known that the Government of Nagaland recognizes only Zeliang as one of the 14 indigenous tribes of Nagaland and that the rights and the privileges entitled for the rightful Zeliang should never be tapped by someone not deserving. The union further added “Anyone who has the intention to confuse one’s counterpart over a crucial issue such as this cannot go unpunished”. Therefore, the attitude of Penam who is not the president of Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland which is the apex student organization of the Zeliang tribe of Nagaland is only for the sake of his hobnobbing with the other recognized tribes’ student bodies. The union warned him by saying that he should not “meddle with the issues” that concerns the Zeliang Students Nagaland and their future. “Be a Zeliang to involve and speak for the Zeliang; otherwise stay out of the affairs that matter our future” stated the note.
