Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Chumoukedima, was held on May 11 under the chairmanship of Zhaleo Rio, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and chairman of the board, at the DPDB Hall in Chumoukedima.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Polan John, heads of departments and board members, who deliberated on developmental issues related to education, infrastructure and administration in the district.
During the meeting, Rio called upon departments and stakeholders to remain prepared for the upcoming monsoon season and stressed the need to ensure that drainage systems are properly cleared and maintained to prevent waterlogging and flooding.
He urged authorities to take timely preventive measures in vulnerable areas and directed that awareness on monsoon preparedness be disseminated to colonies, wards and villages to keep citizens alert and cooperative during the season.
Emphasising coordinated efforts, Rio appealed to all departments to work together to ensure effective preparedness and response mechanisms during the monsoon period.
On developmental planning, the advisor said initiatives should cover the entire Chumoukedima district and not remain concentrated in one area. Referring to the railway station at Sukhovi, he said strategic and organised development planning must begin now in preparation for future growth.
He also stressed the need for systematic and balanced infrastructure expansion and long-term urban planning across the district.
The Police Department was directed to strictly enforce speed limits to ensure road safety and prevent accidents, particularly in accident-prone and crowded areas. Rio also stressed the need for regular monitoring, awareness campaigns and coordinated enforcement measures.
Among the agendas discussed was the recognition of Cinnamon Pre-School at Ward-II, Chumoukedima. The board also considered a proposal for registration of Yimkhiung Baptist Borü-Naga United Village society.
The meeting further deliberated on proposals for upgradation of schools in the district, including the upgradation of Appleseed Pre-School at Sugar Mill, Chumoukedima, to a primary school, Dovecot Christian School at Seithekema to an upper primary school, and Government Middle School ‘C’ at Seithekema to a government high school.
