Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): The Zeliang Students' Union (ZLSU) and the Angami Students' Union (ASU) have strongly condemned the killing of six Naga civilians from Konsakhul village in Manipur, describing the incident as a barbaric and inhuman act and calling for a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
In a statement, the ZLSU expressed anguish and outrage over what it described as the abduction, torture and cold-blooded killing of six innocent Zeliangrong Naga men, terming the incident one of the most horrifying acts of brutality witnessed in recent times.
The union said the killings represented not only the loss of innocent lives but also an assault on human dignity, justice and the sanctity of life, asserting that no ideology, ethnic difference or political conflict could justify such violence.
The ZLSU also expressed concern over reports of the alleged desecration and inhumane treatment of the victims, stating that the incident had inflicted immeasurable pain on the bereaved families and deeply wounded the Naga community.
Calling for justice, the union urged the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, law enforcement agencies and all competent authorities to conduct an immediate, impartial and time-bound investigation into the killings and ensure that all those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
It also appealed to all communities to reject hatred, violence and retaliation and instead unite in seeking justice and accountability while upholding peace and the rule of law.
The ZLSU extended condolences to the bereaved families and the Naga community in Manipur, expressing solidarity with them during the period of mourning.
Meanwhile, the Angami Students' Union (ASU) also condemned the killings, alleging that the six civilians were subjected to abduction, prolonged torture and brutal murder.
The ASU described the reported mutilation and dismemberment of the victims' bodies as an act that violated human dignity and termed the incident an assault on peace and humanity.
The union also questioned how such an incident could occur in an area with a significant deployment of central security forces, raising concerns over the effectiveness of security arrangements in protecting civilians.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families and the people of Konsakhul village, the ASU urged the authorities to ensure justice by holding those responsible accountable while appealing to all sections of society to exercise restraint and maintain peace and stability in the region.
